FESTUNG
GUERNSEY. Festung
Guernsey is a new initiative instigated in 2005 by professional groups and
individuals with an interest and undoubted expertise in WWII fortifications with
support from the German Occupation Museum and various States of Guernsey
departments including the Museum Services. The aim is to make available to the
public and visiting historic societies and academics examples of the most
important fortifications built in Guernsey by the German occupying forces
1940-45. Some of the locations have been subject to extensive restoration while
others will be secured in their original condition as they were when stripped
soon after the end of the war. The group has a large number of enthusiasts with
a strong commitment, they work unhindered by needless internal bureaucracy and
thrive on an uncomplicated simple constitution.

The
Guernsey Military Vehicle Group is dedicated to restoring and preserving
military vehicles. The majority of our members own World War Two military
vehicles, however some of our vehicles date from the post-war period up to the
present day. Throughout the year we put on various military vehicle displays at
local events such as the Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club Car
Show and Guernsey's West Show . In addition to
this every five years we play a major part in organising the Guernsey Liberation
Day Cavalcade. We also hold social
events during the year (not necessarily involving the vehicles), and support the
service charities on the Island such as The Royal British Legion and The RAF
Association. The Guernsey Military
Vehicle Group is affiliated with the UK Military Vehicle Trust (MVT)
which is a nation-wide society concerning the conservation of military
vehicles.

| Channel
Islands Specialist's Society.
The Society was founded back in 1950, by Bill Newport and John Simpson, to study
the stamps and postal history of the Channel Islands. Occupation history and
postcards have become an important part also. Not only the larger islands
of Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, but the smaller islands of Sark, Herm, Jethou,
Lihou, Brecqhou, Les Minquiers, Les Ecrehous and the French Channel Islands.
