Over the years many German personnel have returned to the island, their experiences and knowledge has helped in all aspects of the Occupation Society's work.

HANS SCHIFFERS. Rank: Fs. Obgefr. Teleprinter Operator. Was responsible for setting up teleprinter link between Jersey & Guernsey. Worked at MNO Guernsey and also in Alderney. Hans  has been very helpful in providing information for the restoration of the Naval Signals H.Q. and is pictured here at its opening in 1998 and also in Jersey in 1943.

MNO Staff Unknown but thought to have been taken in Alderney.

PAUL SOMMERFELD.  Stationed in Victoria Avenue area of St. Peter Port. Paul was one of the troops who took part in the 1945 raid on the French port of Granville. Pictured here on a return visit to Guernsey, September 2001 and during the war somewhere at Le Bouet, Guernsey. 

 ANTON WIEGAND. Called up as a Reserve Naval Signals Officer in 1943. Attached to MNO bunker in November 1944. Transferred to Batterie Strassbourg (Jerbourg) January 1945 and finally to the Naval Direction Finding Tower at L'Angle, Pleinmont. Pictured here during the war and on his return visit to our Naval Signals H.Q. at St. Jacques

HANS SINN. Rank: Matr.IV Fs. Hans Sinn was a Hellschreiber operator stationed at the Naval Signals H.Q. Hans was the first known member of the crew to return to the bunker after the war and was personally responsible for putting us in contact with Willi Hagedorn. His knowledge and enthusiasm was a great help when restoring the bunker. Sadly Hans Sinn passed away in 1997.

MNO Staff:

WILLI HAGEDORN. Rank: Oberleutnant. Willi was a highly proficient radio officer who joined the Navy in 1939. Was made Naval Signals Officer and supervised the construction, manning and operation of the MNO bunker at St. Jacques. Visited Guernsey many times from 1973 onwards, his memories of his work at MNO greatly assisted us with its restoration. Sadly Willi died in July 1997
